I currently have an MP10wQD and an MP40WES that sit doing nothing - Spares in case they are ever needed.

Before i go ahead and upgrade the 40 to a QD driver would anybody know if the MP10 driver is compatible with the 40?

I know it seems obvious its not compatible, especially as there is a price difference in the upgrades, so would like to believe you are paying for different insides and not just labelling a more expensive pump with a more expensive upgrade part......However i cant fathom what could be different in the insides and the fact the difference in the old white drivers is simply a sticker stating MP10 / MP40 (Was it just a sticker because they were the same inside rather than a hard print) makes me think these were at some point the same insides.

Anyone risked plugging one into the other?

Can't answer that for you as I only run MP10s. I'll assume the 40 and 60 controllers put out increased voltages over the 10 as the dry and wetsides are larger.

What I really wanted to point out though, if you didn't already know;
Although you will have increased efficiency and reduced noise with a 40ES to QD controller upgrade, you will not benefit from the increased flow of the re-designed 40QD unless you purchase a complete QD unit.

See page 2 in this link.

Appreciate the post - I imagine you are correct regarding the voltage being the reason for the different drivers, never even thought about that fact beforehand.

Appreciate the heads up regarding the efficiency too - Im a bit of a hoarder with Vortechs. Currently have 2 40QD's & 1 fully upgraded 40WES & 2 10QDs. So completely understand the efficiency point. Although oddly i must admit my upgraded 40 driver and wetside are quiter than the 2 default 40QD's but can definitely tell the flow isnt as wide as the defaults.

I was kind of hoping i could create another upgraded 40 by using the parts (spare QD wetside, 10 driver insides) i already have.........

Don't blame ya - I've been there.
With having bought replacement parts over the years and fixing the old ones, I have 4 10wQDs, 2 10wESs and 1 10ES, but I've only bought 2 QDs and 2ESs complete. The rest all came from upgrades and spare parts.

Good luck

Driver cases are all the same mold, thus the sticker in the past. There are manufacturing economies from larger runs. Innards are not exactly the same, though I am sure there are many common parts there too. I asked ETM this a long time ago, though I do not now recall the exact explanation.
