My current tank is a 60”x20”x21” mixed reef running for 1 year. Looking for some input/ideas on a variation of modes to run and mounting for MP40’s. I feel like Ecotech doesn’t really give you the keys, unless there is info I haven’t seen, about proper set up and function of the pump other than a short write up of the modes.
I’m running 2 MP40’s on opposite sides currently running all reef crest from 60-90%. One master one slave pump running antisync. I did not unfortunately leave enough room against the wall to mount them on the back glass... rookie mistake. I also have an internal overflow on the back middle, so it impedes direct flow across the back.
My issue is with the pumps pointing at each other, it creates a strong gyre in the middle. On each side there is good sporadic chaotic flow up top for acros, but towards the bottom 1/3 it is strong one direction back towards the pump. My meatball lps do not enjoy that lol. I’m trying the antisync thinking it would move that gyre around the tank but it doesn’t really. The pump are about 5-6” from the surface. If I put them lower it seems to not do as good a job with surface agitation.
Acros and sps towards the top and middle, lps/zoas at the middle to bottom. A variety of corals in a mixed reef is difficult to keep them all happy.
