Sorry for a second thread.....

... but what is the real pattern behind Vortech's "Lagoon" mode for its MP series of powerheads? Looking at the description, it seems kind of like a sine wave pattern. Does anyone know how it compares to the sine wave pattern in the Jebao controller?

Thanks!

Lagoon Random Mode mimics the low-energy reef zone such as that found in a lagoon. A lagoon is protected from the high energy of large waves and therefore the corals that come from this zone are used to slower, more gentle currents than those found in a reefcrest environment. Lagoon Mode simulates this environment by automatically changing the speed of your pump slowly. The graph below shows a sample of what Reefcrest and Lagoon Mode speeds might look like.

The main difference between Reef Crest and Lagoonal mode is the quickness in changes between intensity. While both are intense, Reef Crest better mimics the more rash environment, where lagoonal mode still has the swells and water movement, it is much more calm.

I use both MP40/MP10's and Jebao PP8 and PP16. The "else" mode on the Jebao seem to be a mixture of speed and the different wave types vs constants. Essentially, I don't believe it mimics a lagoon very well because the changes are quite drastic as it changes between modes.

The MP's give you much better control here out of the box and if you have an Apex with a WXM module, you can even program swells or nutrient export sessions in between the normal lagoonal mode. Again, you would expect this for the price different though :)

I use my vortechs for the control-ability and the Jebaos for additional constant flow.
