I have a 50 breeder(36x18x18) and I want to give the vortechs a try. Would an mp10 be alright? Would only having one pump cause dead spots on the other end. These things aren't cheap

you could go with 1, and then get a cheap powerhead for the other side.. Vortechs work better in pairs though.

Are they really worth the money? I have 2 koralias

Do they actually make a wave in something as big as a 50 gallon? That's a lot of water to move. And how long do these usually last?

Mine is a 65 I have one in the middle on one side and the other a little higher on the other side and I can get waves in there, when I just had one I had it with a cheap maxijet on the other side and it was making small waves

Mine are on a 36 x 24 x 20" tall - 72 gallon, and are plenty of flow;

Is the constant waves bad for the glass and silicone connecting the walls?

Yea it can be but but there is different settings so it won't be constantly on waves
