Vortech MP10

I have a Reefer 170. The LFS, who’s display tank set up I’ve largely replicated, doesn’t use any power heads so I thought getting one would just be ‘upgrading’ the set up.
I bought a MP10 but the more I read the more confusing I find what the ideal mode to use is - I appreciate it can be a bit of personal choice but I’m assuming the different modes have different +/- points otherwise there would be no benefit in a number of modes. So I’m wondering if anyone out there has a mixed reef 170 and what mode they use (including flow rates) and why? Also where is best to place the unit for the different modes? The photo gives some indication of what I’ve got (in addition to what you see there are some Zoas, mushrooms and rock flower anemones). Thanks

I have a 40 breeder and use 2x mp10s, one at each end facing each other. I have mine setup like this: pump 1 0000hrs constant, 0600 reef crest, 1200 constant, 1800 reef crest. Pump 2 0000hrs reef crest, 0600 constant, 1200 reef crest, 1800 constant. They run at 60% 24/7 and creates a good flow. It's what WWC CORALS run on their tanks.

Not sure if I’m being an idiot here but sounds like you have WiFi which I don’t - so I can’t set the timings

Put it on one of the ends. They usually work best from just low enough that they don't suck a vortex of air down from the surface to 1/3 of the way down. You may have to move toward the back or front depending on how it hits your aquascape.

I end up using them in either reef crest mode or short pulse mode. Ecotech has all about the modes and what they do on their website and you can download the instructions

Start with the flow turned all the way down and turn it up until you see the flow you want.

You will probably end up wanting another one. When you stick one pump in a tank it sets up a flow that becomes a current always going the same way. You will get tired of looking at your stuff all bent over one way all the time.
