I am torn between the octopulse 2 and mp10mQD. The reviews on the mp10 line are not as positive as the 40 and 60 lines with numerous complains about the wet sides needing to be replaced numerous times. Since folks really only leave reviews when they are ecstatic or furious I wanted to do a poll here. I love the feature set of the mp10, but also don’t want to deal with wet side issues. I also read the mobious app is poor at best. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Vortechs are great if you buy them new OR you get the vendor to show you the disassembled wetsides showing absolutely no corrosion. Unfortunately, many people still clean their equipment with vinegar instead of citric acid, and this will corrode the wetside. I bought multiple MP10s used, and had to replace the wetsides of most of them due to this corrosion. It was still cheaper than buying them new in Canada, though. And I absolutely love not having power cords in the tank.

Do you have any issues with noise or them falling off the glass?

The largest issue with them falling off the glass is used on glass that is too thick. MP10 is rated up to 0.375". If used on glass that is thicker the wetside may not couple strongly resulting in it become detached.

Additionally many Vortechs are not installed per the directions. The cable should point up with a zip tie holder adhered to the glass above the pump. The cable should be securely fastened to this holder. It does 2 things... ensures the dryside does not fall and supports some of the pump weight.

+1. You're going to inevitably have a problem if you use MP10s on glass with a thickness greater than 3/8" inch thick. I tried one on my RSM250, with its .4" inch glass...and it fell off a couple of times. Do not listen to people who claim that it can be used on glass up to 1/2" thick! And used units often don't come with the factory spacers that help maintain proper adherence.

My glass is 8mm thick and the rating is for 9.5mm. Do you think I am cutting it too close?

You should be fine, but remember that excessive vibrations are caused by improper maintenance of the wetsides and/or improper positioning. Both of these things will negatively effect adherence, too.

I've had two MP10QD's for over six years, and another two ES's which I bought used and are probably more like 8-9 years old. They run between 40-100% at pretty much all times.

I have had three failed power supplies and replaced four wet sides. I killed at least 2-3 wet sides before I learned to not use vinegar on them. I replaced the power supplies with $12 units from Amazon.

My only complaint is Reeflink is a PITA, but I assume that's fixed with Mobius. I don't have the Mobius chips in mine.
