Hi guys, I have an odd issue with a VorTech mp10 I can’t get my head around and looking for some advice before splashing out on parts

I currently have an mp40wQd (upgraded kit) and an mp10wQD (original) that have worked flawlessly for years. Always been in reefcrest or lagoon mode but recently decided to change and play with the setting via a reef link.

The issue
If I put the mp40 in wave mode, it works perfectly. If I put the mp10 in wave mode it repels the magnet after the first ramp down and dislodges leaving the motor on the outside swinging and unable to magnetise. If I then shut the power off to the pump and remove the wet side a few inches and place back it magnetises as expected and works fine back in one of the constant modes. This happens every time I try to put it in one of the wave modes. So I’m unable to use any of the wave modes with this pump. This happens when changing the settings manually on the controller as well as via the reeflink

Have had a search and can’t find anything similar before I start looking at replacing the wet side etc

whats thickness of the tank. Ecotech says over 10mm doesnt work for the MP10 magnet and can come off the glass.

It’s 10mm glass.... I did think the same that maybe that was the issue but using the pump on a mixing container at about 4mm thickness gives the same issue too

I had that issue with mp40 when it was moving from feed into expanding pulse. I changed the setting after feed to rapid increase, seemed to fix it.

Depending on how old the MP10 wetside is, it may have developed some 'slop' and is the reason for the disconnections. I suspect a new one would mitigate the problem. I had an old MP10 wetside that was fine on the calmer settings but would pop off if I tried any of the pulse modes. BTW, dryside should not be swinging. If it is you don't have it fixed properly.

Appreciate the advice guys, won’t get a chance to play around tonight but will have a look in the morning, will see if a rapid increase manages to hold it if not possibly a new wet side. The current one is a little under 2 years old I imagine.
By swinging I guess I mean just repelling. The wet side stays in place but the dry side becomes pushed to the side but as it ramps up and down on pulse mode it creates a kind of swing motion, repelling outwards then falling back centre, vice versa....the dry side itself is held in place with the plastic mounts and cable ties so isn’t much movement but a swing is probably the easiest way to describe the repelling action.... much appreciated, a new wet side is long overdue to be honest as it is

I agree with ca1ore, I would replace the wet side. Perhaps after a solid vinegar soak your current one will work better.

Gave the pump a 2 hour soak in vinegar.... now works perfectly. Appreciate the advice guys!
