I noticed that one of my Vortech MP40s is flashing Red/Green. I disconnected the power and the wet side to see if it was stalled. I left the wet side disconnected but reconnected the power. The dry side tried to turn but couldn't. I tried to reset the controller but the controller wont let me. The unit is probably 7+ old. Any suggestions.

Red/Green is a stall error code. It may be that the bearings on the dry side may be wearing out and causing resistance after 7 years of use. Does the dry side make any unusual noise when it tries to spin?

No odd sounds. I opened up the controller and saw I could always disconnect it from the power head. I have the other MP40 I could open the controller to that one and swap the wires just to rule out the controller. But yet I don’t want to possibly break that controller.

Swapping them would rule out the controller and confirm the dry side being faulty

It probably is a failing dryside. 7 years is a good long life for one of these. I’ve replaced most of my older MP40 with the QD model, but I do still have one older unit in operation. It was manufactured in late 2012. Have you been running it with the grommet oriented to the correct tank wall thickness?

I’ll have to check the grommet tomorrow. It’s my dads reef tank which I have taken over maintenance due to his health. But I’m sure he did it correctly.

The problem has been solved. First we looked at the grommet and that was in the correct position but we still took it off and put it back on. Then I swapped the cable that connects the powerhead to the controller with the other MP40 we have. The controller and powerhead worked. So swapped the cable back to the original powerhead and it worked. So one of the solutions worked.
