have an option to trade my mp40wes for a gyre fx150 and don't know what to do. 56 gallon tank, 36 inches long. LPS and anemones with possible SPS in the future. I will have 800GPH on opposite side of this from my return

Don't have a Gyre yet but seems like the 150 might be overkill for a tank that size. I have a single MP40 in my 90 and that does the job quite well.

The xf150 will be too much i would look at the xf130
I thought you could reduce the power or flow of them. Is this not true? I like the Vortech because I can just turn it down while retaining the variable flow

Yeah you can reduce the flow. I have one 150 in a 800ltr tank what I really would like is two 130 or 150 going back to front.. I would say the pulse mode and constant flow is awesome but reverse mode is rubbish, but overall better then my two mp40s. I don't want to say get a 130 then you wish to have more flow but in my 6 foot long tank I think I need a little bit more power in pulse mode personally.

I just got the gyre 150 and all I can say is WOW;-). They move a ton of water! U can dial it down to your liking. I replaced two mp40's with this pump. It truly is a great pump

And super super QUIET!!!!!!!

Yes but out of the two I would go for the gyre and on the xf130 you can get fitting so that you can run just one side of the gyre ( soon to be out on the 150) so if you want even less flow for a nano or small tank you can do + the benefits of one of the best WM I've ever seen in action

I have decided to stick with Vortech. I am reading too many negative things about the Gyre's. Support apparently is hit and miss, cable separation is a known issue, and linear flow....yeah I know they have pulse, but nothing like lagoon or reef crest.

I had also posted a poll on RC and the votes were much different. 87.5% stay with Vortech.

I was in two minds as well my friend but haven't looked back since. I've seen that the new quit drive has gyre mode instead of pulse mode now

The 150 for 56 gallon lps tank will destroy eveything, i have a 150 in a 4ft 90 and highest setting i can run it on is 40, and a xf13o in a 25 gallon frag tank thats 3 ft long and before i bought the cap to close one end i could only run it at 10 to 20%. These things move serious amounts of water. Also both my tanks are 90% SPS so on the 90 gallon with the xf150 at 40% its has a ton of flow, had to move the couple euphilyas i have to be hidden by cliffs in my rock work and its still almost to much for the lps. Get the xf130 you will like it better being able to run it higher, as it will allow you to really use the other modes.

Either way they are great pumps but with the gyre you will not have a single dead spot. Also if you have an aquarium controller (APEX) you can now hook the Gyre up to an APEX and create your own profiles and have it do random speeds and types of flow throughout the day. With the gyre stock controller id give the vortech the edge as with the vortechs you can program different modes either way. But if you can get the new icecap gyre interface module, IMO the Gyre is unbeatable.

I have heard they are ridiculously good at moving water, after all isn't their moto something like "leave no water unturned" or something to that affect. I wouldn't mind having one purely for the movement but just can't justify getting rid of my Vortech. But, if I could trade my MP40 for MP10's I would love to add the Gyre.

Have you read the review by Dana riddle and the comments people left?

I highly recommend going with the Gyre. I have the 130 on my 57 gallon tank 36" long. I used to have two MP 10. So much better. I can only turn it up half way before it starts moving sand. The revised really doesn't do much, but I still use.

When I first got the gyre I loved it. However, after have it for a while now, I'm going back to vortechs.
#1 The gyre are more difficult to clean than the vortech
#2 I'm realizing that I really like not having the cable inside the tank

I'll only use the gyre if it fits the needs....like I want to have it vertical to get flow across the back the of tank.
