I need to buy new powerheads for a 93g cube I'm setting up. I've only run Koralia's in the past, but want to get something better. I'm looking into both Tunze and Vortech, but don't know much about how they compare to each other. Any input from owners would be appreciated.

koralia and tunze both function the same except tunze has better quality and reliability but then again you get what you pay for. I would go with the vortechs. I use 2 vortechs and 2 koralia evos for my cube. trust me, vortechs are wayyy better than tunze

What about the Koralia do you not like. I have one and from the looks of it, it's a great pump. Nice open flow, great for mixing salt. lol, but the size of it is what draws me towards the Vortech. In fact, I have an MP20 coming in the mail. I'm going to do the upgrade/convert it into an MP40 since everything is the same except for the driver and power source. Never had any experience with Tunze pumps but plenty of people have told me that they are reliable. Again, it goes back to size, given you can get a few Tunzes for the price of one Vortech.

I guess I'll figure it out once I get my pump. I'll be using it as an MP20 and converting later. If anything I can always sell it and buy two Tunze pumps for about the same price (6025.) Either way you can't go wrong with them. Oh yeah the 6025s can be modded for more flow in case you need it.

my koralia starts backwards sometimes but i just unplug and plug in again and its no big deal for the price compared to tunze. I have a 24x24x20 cube dimensions is great for increasing flow and my flow is ridiculous. my fish swim back and forth with the current. i think they like it!

A single MP40 would get that water in your cube working hard! I have a Reef Savvy tank as well and it's a great tank. I'm planning to get another MP10 but a little worried it might not hold on 1/2" glass. Vortech pumps create flow from all around and takes up less space, that's what sold me on getting at lease one for now.

Thanks for all the responses. I want to stay away from the Koralia's due to size and some problems I've had with them in the past. I've heard good things about both Tunze and Vortech. I like the vortech's for their size, no cords in the water and the controllable features.

I never thought I would shell out the cash for Vortechs, but I'm glad I did. The flow pattern and undertow they create is unlike any other pump I've used. I am much happier with them than the multiple K's and my 6100's. Bite the bullet and get the Vortech's, you won't regret it.

Ok well it seems that Vortech is an overwhelming YES.

My next question is what to get? Do I go with 1 MP40 or 2 MP10's?

+1....I have (2) MP60's on my 180gl sps and (2) MP20's on my 60gl lps cube. You will love them and well worth the money.

Only downside is they tend be be a bit noisy, but excellent in every other category!

I agree w/ Turfster about the noise. I've had 2 MP40s on my 180 and they work great, although I run a pretty quite system and the vortechs are by far the loudest sound from my tank.

i have 2 vortech MP60's, they are really amazing. I also have 2 Tunze 6100, they are also excellent. But i like MP60 way better.

I have used both and still do, They are very equal.

Tunze is more reliable and Roger has the best service ever if there is a problem.

Votech takes up less room inside the tank. There is no way to aim a vortech. Vortech sit on the side of the tank and are hard to hide. Vortech transfer less heat to the tank.

You can not go wrong with either. There are advantages and disadvantages to both.
