Got a 6x2x2 that I need a hand with, it's got two mp40's on at the moment and it's one at each end but I'm not happy with the flow.
I can see dead spots and build up etc so I want to add another mp40 maybe a 60 to the tank to help.

Problem I've got is I don't know where to put the pumps now, Do I stick one on the back in the middle and leave the existing pumps where they are? Do I leave a 40 on the end and put two on the back? Do I get a 60 and put that on one end and two 40's on the back?

I'll be getting a reeflink in the same order so I'll be able to program them etc which should help a lot.

Any advice would be great and much appreciated

One on each end and one in the center of the back wall would be good. Otherwise for a cleaner look you can do what I did if space allows for it and put all three equally centered on the back wall. I'm using mp10s though in a 40b tank. But with the pumps on the back the tank looks extremely nice with nothing hanging on the sides

You could stick with MP40s and go with four total using one at each end and two on the back wall. The controllers will all sync (or anti-sync if you desire) to create a nice flow based on whichever profile you choose. @Crabs Mcjones layout would certainly look nice as well but I cant run the pumps at higher flow rates without blowing the sand away from the front glass in that configuration.

I'l get another 40 and stick one on the back then see if it causes a storm or not.
I'l be replacing the rock soon so can rest then :)

You can't be a true Vor-tech-E without having at least one Mickey Mouse ear hanging off the side of your tank!! Just kidding the 3 in the back sounds great and I am betting you get some awesome flow patterns.

HI I had a similar problem but on a smaller scale 2xmp10 ended up with one mounted at right hand side mid level close to the front of the tank and at the opposite end higher towards the back added a polario(similar to a gyre) in between mounted to the rear of the tank seems to work quite well

I've got the right one higher and more central and the left one lower and closer to the front.
I'l try the third in the middle back somewhere once the order turns up

If you can, I'd add in 2 Maxspect Gyre XF250 for the left/right side and put the MP40s on the back. If your goal is to keep SPS, you are gonna need a ton of flow in the tank.

I'l admit I totally forgot about the gyre.

I know they'e different but is a gyre a better choice or just a good option?
I've probably got time to change the order but I don't know if it's worth it.
Three vortechs all on the same page vs two and a gyre.

I' not saying your wrong, it might be a fantastic idea, I'll just have to look into it a bit

Have a 6’ as well have 4 MP40 2 on each side and its plenty. Added 2 apex WAVs one on each side in the back, to change the flow pattern and love it on a all acro set up, (probably over kill). Feel like a lot is how your rocks are set up!
If I where to do it again I would put MP-40 on each side and 1 on each side in the back your good!

Ordered a reeflink and one more 40 but now I'm leaning towards calling them up and asking to change for gyres :(

Reef link is awesome must have! If ur thinking that I would, instead of getting one more 40 just get 2 gyres! 2 on sides and 2 on back! [emoji1360]

I dont think they provide any advantage, they're just another option. I'm not sure why anyone would actually want a gyre flow pattern over what the Ecotech's provide.

Edit: lost part of my post.

I'l message them and see if I can swap the mp40 for 2 gyres and pay the difference. Keep the reeflink as it will still be useful

I don’t have them, and don’t know anything about gyre, I’m an ecotech fan. That’s what he was thinking! So showing that option is there. He needs more flow with that being said, everyone is different!
