I've been playing with this thing for an hour and can't get the noise to come down far enough. What am I doing wrong?

If they are not aligned properly, they will make a lot of noise. They have to be lined up perfectly. What vortech are you using?

Mine was pretty loud too. I took apart the wet side and the white impeller shaft was glued but funky. The square base had a little bit of glue sticking up and I scrapped that off and it sounded the problem. It's hard to explain it exactly, but hopefully you can understand what I'm saying. If not I can take mine off and take a picture showing exactly where the problem was.

Its an mp10wes. Should I try and toy with it or exchange it for another one?

I've been playing with it for an hour and still can't get the noise down to where I'd like it

Is it the wet or the dry side making noise?
Did you buy new or used?
If you call or email Ecotech they will help you in not time, customer service is awesome at Ecotech.

I bought is new today. Kind of disappointing spending all that money and its loud. I hear both the dry and wet side. The dry I understand its a higher pitch wining from the motor but I don't think the wet side should be making the amount of noise it does

Doing some research online, people say they need a day or two to break in. Is this true?

Get them into a position that is the quietest. They will settle in and get their groove on in a few days. Mine did quieten down considerably in the first few days of use.

It seems like every speed and preset has a different noise level. If I align it at full power and get a tolerable noise level and bring the speed down a little, it gets louder. I emailed eco tech. For being top of the line pumps, it should sound like this. Its taking away from being able to enjoy the tank

Good luck....I'm sure they will be able to make some helpful suggestions.

Mine is normally whisper quiet. When it does start getting loud, I know its time to take it apart and clean it. Sand or other debris gets inside it and makes a horrible sound. Have you taken it apart and checked for junk rubbing inside? I found out the hard way that my sand is slightly magnetic and can easily get drawn inside.

I found the problem, the magnet and the white end inside the wet side has no lubricant or anything to reduce friction. What can I use that won't be harmful to the tank

I have to be about a foot away from my mp10 to hear the dry side, the only time I heard a peep from the wet side was when a small snail got a little too close to the propeller.

I have no idea...I'd ask the mfg. You may need to get it swapped out.

I'll hear back from ecotech by Monday I'm sure. Either there needs to be some sort of grease or something reducing friction. Or I'm missing a part between the rotor and the frame and axle.

I am using the rubber spacer. So I've looked on like at what I can do and some people say petroleum jelly is reef safe and I figured that could reduce the friction. Any thoughts?

No lubricant necessary.
It might just a bad pump, stuff happens but not often at Ecotech.
I have 5 mp40's running on my sps tank and I have one that is a bit louder than the rest, still not notable when you hang in front of the tank.
100% sure that Ecotech will take care of you.
