Hi All: I am interested in buying a vorTech pump for a 72 gallon bow front. I was thinking of getting the MP40. I have a blue background on the outside back of my tank that is probably an 1/8 of an inch thick and I imagine the glass thickness is about 1/4 inch (?). I am just concerned if the pump would hold to that thickness? What are your thoughts? Also are they easy to program? Thanks for your help.Sarah

Hey Sarah, MP40's will hold on glass up to 3/4" thick I am no sure about the 2 different thickness together, but what is the background made of? If material was plastic of something similar you could always trace a outline and cut out the circle so that the MP40 (outside piece) will fit straight to the tank glass. You could also contact Ecotech directly as they might be able to quickly respond to that question as I have never seen one mounted on a tank with a background. I don't think that you will be even close to the max thickness but don't know about the 2 different materials (glass & your background). They are very easy to set up and should not take you very long at all. Also welcome to Reef2Reef!

Thanks Eric! Great idea of cutting a hole out of the background for the pump. Do you think the MP40 will be too much? I guess you can control the velocity of these pumps so they are not too strong. I am not exactly sure what the background is make of...some type of plastic. I actually am looking for a type of background (black) that you can just peel off and put on the back of the tank.
