Which one do you like the best and why?
What size and how many would be recommended for a 180g DT
Is Vortech the only brand with the cord on the outside of the tank?

I am considering these two brands and need users input. Thank you!

I haven't used the tunze, but I recently installed a mp10 to my 55 gallon tank and a few minutes after using it i wanted another one. I believe vortech are the only ones with the cord outside, and by that reason alone, i believe makes them a superior product.

Tried Vortechs twice, but went back to Tunze.
Couldn't handle the noise from the Vortechs.

I have both and feel you can't go wrong either way. Both great pumps.

MP-40 all the way. They are quiet if you get them adjusted right. Just takes a bit of fiddeling. I have enough things heating up my water without motors for powerheads adding to it.

Mp40 is quiet of it is aligned properly

I had no alignment issues. All 3 of the new Vortechs I had created noise when ramping up. I messed with them for a couple months before selling them.
Some people have a quieter environment than others.
I tried them on 2 different tanks, but went back to the Tunzes I had before.

I tried realigning it multiple times it was the whirring sound from it ramping up and down that was the deal breaker for me. I'm more than happy with my tunzes they are dead silent when ramping up and down and small enough that they are no more intrusive than the vortech was to me.

I got mine installed yesterday and it was no problem getting them aligned. I love these things! What mode does everyone like the best? With my mixed reef 180g , I have mine in reef crest mode, turned up about 3/4 of the way. Tonight I'm going to set the night time mode. Is there a better setting I could put it on?

i have my mp10 set at night at 20% power and during the day I set it to reef crest at 100%, but sometimes during the day I play witht he short pulse and make a wave for a little while

Lots of threads on the same topic. I own both and feel there's pros and cons to both, with more cons on the Vortech side. Tunzes warranty is twice as long, you can articulate the flow, and they last. Vortech: the bracketless design is cool but there's still a cord draped across the outer pane, those sticky zip tie squares look horrendous, and they're notorious for failing. Also the warranty is only a year. The Pulse modes are cool though. The noise issue doesnt bother me.I'm still on the fence on throwing down for an mp60 on my next tank. The warranty thing is huge

I keep mine in reef crest most of the time, but I change it to short pulse and nutrient export mode all the time as well. I like to mix it up as much as possible. Its good for the corals, and it keeps the detritus from settling anywhere. I'm glad you are happy with your purchase!
