Skinning it is not cheating. It is not that easy to skin a pumpkin and plus it takes longer to do it.

this is my first attempt at skinning a pumpkin and i really thought it would be easy ....but to get the depths right to get the light tones right was way more challenging than any pumkin i've ever carved with a knife

Wow there are some awesome carvings here... I've never heard of skinning a pumpkin so that was cool. You can do so much more than a full carving. Things have come a long way since I was carving as a child. Well done everyone!

thanks cdness now that the pumpkins are all on sale i was thinking of getting a few more and practice for fun, because it really was alot of fun.....hard on the hands but fun !!!!this contest was a great idea tooo because seeing fish on pumpkins is very different and clown fish are sooo perfect because they are orange and white..... the kids next door thought it was cool to see nemo in a pumpkin fishbowl hahahahahaha!!

If you like carving and skinning, then you should really give funkins a try. Its really nice to see all the work that you put into it last for years. I really like using these and you can get them as cheap or cheaper then real pumpkins if you shop around, especially here in cali.
