Couple weeks ago I had a pretty decent 40 breeder sumpless tank going on.
Bought some new stuff. Upgraded to a 65. New hydras to replace black boxes. New skimmer. That's about it. Again sumpless. Last time I swapped tanks it was flawless and looked BETTER immediately. This time, not so much.
I swapped the tanks in about an hour or two. My mistake was I removed my deep sand bed and replaced it with all new sand bed (deeper). Call me an old man, but I believe in DSB
Regardless....
Over the next few days I started losing acros. About a hundred dollars a day for a week straight. Then my fish broke out in ich. Somewhere in the middle I had a bacterial bloom
I'm starting to get a grip on the RTN STN and fish are starting to clear up (polyp lab medic) is far so good...... Kole tang went to a hospital tank VIA my LFS because he had it the worst.
Alk actually started dropping again today and I had to increase dosing, which always makes me me happy.
Today I finally decided I would test nutrients because stuff is starting to brown out. I had too much going on past few weeks to even bother as they were usually very stable.
Nitrate is at 20. Old tank ran 5-10
Phosphate is at .22 ! ! ! Used to run at .03
Why ? Removal of old DSB and installation of mostly dead new one ? Could it be because I added about 5-10 pounds of dry rock to lift the scape up a couple inches ? I have a missing yellow watchman goby who was kind of freaking the F*** out when out into the new tank, but he's only an inch at most. Also haven't seen my pistol shrimp but surely if they're dead they wouldn't raise the nutrients that much.... I'm hoping they'll pop up some day. They could have just squared themselves away somewhere I can't see.
I dosed 2.4 mil of lanthinum chloride via my ATO and upped my nopox from 2.5 mil a day to 3.0.
Thoughts ? I kind of pickled my tank this month but it's coming back around
