I have had this wall hammer coral for about a week. Recently is started to not open in a small section towards the middle. I gently blew the coral with a turkey baster is the affected area to try to remove any detritus. To my surprise the tentacles in this region came off in brown clumps. I Bayer dipped it before placing it in my tank, and am doing so again. Any other tips to save it?

Possibly brown jelly disease. if that's the case I'm afraid there's nothing you can do. and if it is bjd you don't want it to spread to your other euphyllia.

Do I run any risk by leaving it in my tank?

It could possibly spread to other euphyllia. the bad thing about bjd is that there's not a lot of scientific data about it. I don't think anybody has been able to fully cure it and some have reported it sprads to other euphyllia, and sometimes it doesn't. I've personally experienced both scenarios with no rhyme or reason. My protocol was removing the infected coral and running carbon. not sure if the carbon does anything though.

And since it's a wall, you won't have much luck in trying to frag the healthy parts. too bad it's not branching.

Wall hammers are tough because they are so dang sensitive. This happened to mine too, and it was a goner. I was so sad because it was such a nice piece. I haven't tried another wall, and I don't know that I will. I've had much better luck with my branching hammer.
