Wall Hammer with Sudden Brown Jelly?

I have had this beautiful, large toxic green wall hammer for about 7 or 8 months & it’s been doing really well until this past week or so. Today, I noticed brown jelly on one end of it. I have Seachem Reef Dip and CoralRx (the liquid).
Would dipping it possibly save the coral? I really don’t want to lose it, it’s grown so much over the last few months - at least doubling in size.

ciprofloxacin is the best medicine for brown jelly. I am guilty, I still haven't ordered a bottle from chewy yet.

It's not available on Amazon or Chewy (discontinued). Where do you find cipro for your tank??

Now that chewy isn't carrying the meds anymore, I guess it's down to hunting for a new place to purchase.

I ordered fluconazole from them a few weeks ago and received the package a few days later. I like how they put the meds in capsules so you don't have to grind pills up and worry about fillers.

I’m sorry, I should have updated the thread. My hammer completely receded and died within a day or two of posting this. It was definitely not pooping, but that was a good suggestion anyways! The first time I saw one of my corals poop, I freaked out.
Turns out that I had some flatworms eating the hammer and once the fleshy parts were gone, I could see them all over the skeleton. Not sure where they came from since I’ve dipped everything and haven’t added anything new in at least 6 months. After the hammer died, the flatworms started coming onto the glass. My Yellow Coris Wrasse and Scooter Blenny have been tag teaming them but I’m still really sad about my wall hammer!

Sorry to hear about your hammer I keep Cipro on hand now all the time. If something gets infected with BJD or looks unhealthy otherwise I dip in Cipro. If it turns out to be BJD there isn't enough time to order and have it delivered and save the coral.

Do you have photos of the flatworms? Euphyllia eating flatworms are usually pretty distinctive and large. Could have just been some other flatworm? I don't see anything in the photo you posted.

Funny you say you dip everything before goes in tank.im new to saltwater and watching all the videos and reading articles about dipping corals,it says cant 100% eracdicate all but nearly can.
Well i dipped a 8 inch gsp frag and the amount of critters i seen on it once in tank was unbelievable, unknown isopods,spaghetti worms,spirobod worms,ampripods just lots lots lol.
Only thing i seen dip killed was 2 tiny star fish like things.
Well i prezume now you going try treat to kill the remaining flatworms? Or if you got no more euphylia in tank will they just starvevor you think they can eat other things ?

These photos may be a little tough to see… I guess I can’t say for sure that these are the culprits but they were all over in the skeleton. I had never seen one on the glass until right when the hammer was dying either. I would say they’re similar in color to thin coralline algae just starting to grow on your glass… that’s what I thought they were at first.

Thank you! I keep seeing more of them, so I may have no choice but to go the Flatworm Rx route. I hope someone can identify them… I did some searching and couldn’t find anything that looked quite like them.

Literally, as I’m posting this, I walked past my big 120g and refilled the ATO reservoir only to notice a different type of flatworm in the sump there. Ugh!! The only thing that’s ever not been dipped in there is the chaeto ball. :mad:

Then run lots of carbon. Kinda sounds intimidating but I really like my corals!

The little white flatworms in the sump are harmless and can be eliminated with flatworm rx. From my understanding they don't release a toxin. The red ones do..

Yeah, I’m nervous to use it because of that. I have seen a few videos that say you should siphon every worm you can see, then dose the Flatworm Rx, give it 5 minutes and do a large water change while siphoning all the dead guys. Then run lots of carbon. Kinda sounds intimidating but I really like my corals!

Yeah just did quick search and few guys and vetteguy saying similar about siphon up dead ones as can release toxins and water change off course.
Maybe different flatworms act differently when dead so as you said in above poat,hopefully someone can identify which ines you got,vetteguy very knowledgeable on many things maybe tag him or maybe you started another thread already and will get identification from pictures you put in thread of flatworms i prezume. But juat try identify,do some research,ask advice and follow instructions on bottle unless say an experienced guy says use half recommended dose for example. Anyway good luck im just rambling on now lol ^_^

Could be Aeolid flatworms you saw from the hammer? They can get to be a problem if the population is too big but they don't eat the coral I don't think? https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/aeolid-flatworms.728915/ They could have been on the hammer and when the hammer died they didn't have anywhere to go but the glass.

The really bad ones that can nuke a tank are red planaria. They have a 3 point 'tail'

Two points on the outside and one in the middle.
