I bought a walt disney around 4 months ago and used to look really good. Used to have polyps out and all now it isn't very well. Not sure if it semi bleached but for the 1st month i had it it looked perfect, then 2nd month started going down hill.

This is how it looked 3.5 months ago.

Now it looks like this:

The polyps are semi out but the top of it is a lighter color than the bottom which is brown.

And it is barely encrusting :(, any help?

I would, if possible, down to lower light to get the zooxanthellae back in the coral. As mentioned, it looks bleached from too much light or unbalanced system. They can be very touchy corals.;)

The guy i fjrst got i from told me to put it high in the tank so it was closer to the light but when i realized it looking pale so i lowered it down to half way down the tank and its been there a month. I glued the guy down at this point. Do you think he will recover or do i need to pop him off and lowrr him again?

What are your water parameters? Any temp or alk swings? Something is stressing it out.

If it's lower in the tank, then it's going to just take time. You have pe so that is a good sign. Be patient and it will come back;)

Hmm.. What about nutrient levels? A little bit of nitrates and a bit of phosphates can do an acro good with coloration. I know that when I ran 0 NO3/PO4, my corals all lost color and had bad PE. Now that I run 10 NO3 and 0.03 PO4, everything looks much better in general.

Looks like too clean of tank to me too, i'd be curious in your PO4 and NO3 levels also.

As other stated, parameters and nutrient readings please. I have had corals that look awesome when I added them, system parameters, light were ideal and some corals just do not make it. Try some vitamin C to help it heal, the C will be good for the rest of the system also.

If your nitrates and phosphate is close to zero, then even what you might think is not overwhelming amounts of light can cause bleaching. Also what we use to consider avg alkalinity is too high for an ulns system.

Could you elaborate? This is the first I've heard of C and a reef tank. Sounds interesting.

Any first hand experience?

Oh yes. I have been doing vitamin C since the 90's and have had great results with the fish being healthy. It was not until a little over two years ago when I was dealing with an ich outbreak that I started dosing vitamin C regularly after research and just dosing.

Back in the day, I would just toss a 5oo mg table in the tank twice a week, now I just dose with the frozen food.

We are frying the corals with our light everyday and the corals skin/membranes to get the sunburn effect and the vitamin C help with the recovery. I also dose vitamarian M, but when I run out of the M which is soon I am going to go with B-12 and the C only to see how the system reacts.

There are a couple of products out for reef tanks that are like a multivitamin with vitamin C and member are using them with success.

Boy do I love to experiment! Now I'm going to have to get me some vitamin C. Any locally available source that is reef safe? Ascorbic acid, right? How bad does this affect pH?

Like others already asked you can we get your tank parameters please including the lighting source. Before you do any more experiment on that poor thing it will be nice to see if there is already some persistent issue there.

LOL, just remember one change/experiment wait two weeks.

The amount that you would be using is so small and the effect on the PH would very little. GNC, and vitamin shop has everything you need, or Amazon.

Vitamin shop like GNC should sell pure powdered L-ascorbic acid. If you have never tried KZ Coral Snow it is pure powder calcium carbonate. It is a great flocculating agent that will leave your water crystal clear.
