How much is a “larger tank” that is reef ready ie just to drill. I will build the stand and everything. Currently have a 29g want maybe a 75 90 ect. Maybe in the next year when we finish our basement i want to upgrade. How much are they roughly usually just for the tank. 400? 500? I have a 75 that is tempered bought by mistake. And do not know what to do with it.

Buying a tempered tank by mistake?
Ha, no, I want a bigger tank. Ion the tank piece petco just ended the $1 gal sale and the one by me had aqueon 90s on sale for $199. The only tempered panel was the bottom. They usually run that sale once a quarter.

Yeah save the 75 for a sump! Can’t give you an actual price but keep your eyes peeled on second hand websites and what not, I see lots of deals on them. My buddy has a 300 g he’s looking to get rid of.

You could also put the 75 you have now into use and run an hob overflow. I ran this one when I ran a sump with a toms aqua lifter with zero issues. It held siphon every time I stopped the pumps and every time I broke a iPhone to test resart it never failed.

idk the idea of the overflow siphon breaking frightens me. I guess i could use two aqua lifter pumps for redundancy. But idk the idea of a a even larger tank now seems apealing : ) and the 75 isnt going anywhere.

When I get my 120 set up and running again, hopefully in a few more months, I will be using an old 75 gal. as a sump then since I will have room for it.

I used one and it was more than enough. I had everything balanced though. If the drain plugged the sump wouldn’t overflow. The return chamber also couldn’t overflow the tank. I had it tilted (there’s adjustment knobs) so the side with the siphon nipple was just a tad higher so any air bubbles that wound up in there got sucked out through the lifter. It also came with a plastic mesh that covers the top and grate of the intake and kept out anything bigger than a nail head. I never had anything clog the pump.

A 120 also seems nice maybe in a year or 2. Seems big enough but not too big. Ill keep a lookout for something.

To be honest, I wouldn’t upgrade anything above 75. With a tank that big you would probably need a sump, and the equipment since larger would be more expensive. It would be way to much money. Also heavy tanks require a good stand. A 90 gallon would require a very good quality and expensive stand. If money isn’t really an issue then I guess you could go for it, but if ur on a budget, I wouldn’t.

Facebook marketplace.... you would be suprised
My wife finds crazy deals on there. Downside: need to be on Facebook. There was a guy where I am a few weeks ago that got rid of all his stuff for free on Craigslist . He was running everything from 20 gal to 125s.

Don’t mean to jump the gun but it’s pretty easy if your semi handy to build a decent stand. Just make sure you use a level when setting up your tanks.

Side to side. And diagonally.
If you achieve that along with the proper support. It’s not hard at all.

I just bought a Marineland 200g deep dimension with 2 radions 30 pros full trigger sump return pumps 2 mp40s and an apex controller and a ton of other stuff for $1000 on Facebook marketplace a few weeks back. The deals are out there

2x4s are cheap and building a solid box to support a tank, even if all you have are hand tools, takes about an hour to slap together if you don’t care about skinning it so it looks like a piece of furniture.
