This zoa colony seems to be on a dead sps frag. I have small sps bone cutters am looking to break up this colony into more manageable pieces since its a pretty akward size. I saw a vid from tidal gardens where they just broke up the rock. What safety precuations do i need to take. Just wear gloves and glasses? And can i cut off a few zoas from the rock at the base or is that too risky? there are some different colors mixed in that i want to seperate. And should i dip the zoas in iodine afterward to avoid complications?

Hi everything u said is right on the money but I wouldn’t dip after. They are pretty resilient if water quality is good. If you loose some they will grow back. What type of zoas are they ?

im not sure here is a better pic, i think i paid maybe 25-30 for the rock

Ya sure why not, When i first got them a couple months ago i saw a sea shell stuck in colony and was able to glue it to a plug. Has trippled to maybe 9-10 heads already

I have a lot of different colonies all over the tank. I like having the multicolor zoa gardens. I Prob have like 2000 individual zoas in the tank. I lost track of all the names. It’s a 200 gallon in wall Build . I mostly have soft corals in the tank but it’s full to capacity . Thx

Whoa!

I’ve had aptasia pop up in a couple of zoa frags and kalk paste knocked it out.
I had one on the base of a lobo and hit it with aptasia x and its not coming back, i think im not letting it sit long enough be cause they are coming back pretty quickly, im prob going to frag the rock later this week. Maybe going to glue a piece to my overflow
