Im sorry I don't have anything true to share with you.

True Rastas, True Blue Hornets...

No really, I understand the concept of calling something "true" but without some sort of accreditation or certificate, how can these people call something "true".

They all came from the ocean. I don't get it, all I see is a name for money like (coach, Nike, Billabong, BMW) A utter chaos would be a bmw and a dragon eye would be a honda. thats how I see it

That's not so much the problem. My issue now is how am I supposed to desipher between what is true and untrue. Im about to drop cash on something, how can I tell if it's legit? Throwing the word true in front of it makes me think all other ones are not the truth. This marketing ploy is kicking my ****. Im wondering if they actually have proof of lineage if they can label it as "true"
 
I've been out of the coral hustle for a while. I let my tank go admittedly after loosing way too many Zoa colonies. Green Bay Packers, Alien eyes, and Tubbs Blues....or anything blue was the highly sought after zoas. I forget what they were going for but it was not anything like stuff is going for today. I think as long as you like it, get it. Don't get something for $100 a polyp because that is the hot piece. Do what you like my friends....we aren't the ones looking at your tank you are. Don't get me wrong if you need that crazy polyp in your tank go nuts. As long as you want it and your not just trying to keep up with the jones's. now that the bug is back for me, I'm buying some cool pieces, but I see a lot of these morphs going for crazy cash, that in my opinion aren't anything special. Flame away if you want, but after over 18 years with a tank I'd rather have something I truly like in my tank then having that one polyp of "insert highly over priced name here". Even if it is a Kia, Honda, Benz, or Bugatti.

Legit would be who got what from what. I mostly only by from sites or go in on local group bys so I know what im getting is ''true'' I had a nice collection of zoas then sold them all the get into the ''sticks'' and was always asked where I got them.
 
I kept proof of lineage on my corals. well most, Theres plenty of morphs but if you get into zoas you will learn very quickly whats ''rare'' and whats is the real deal. Most venders will list the farmer of which it came from
 
Unless they did a DNA sequencing no one can really say one is truely lineaged to a certain morph or what. Or if someone say my new coral is a morph of so and so supercalifragelistic zoa how can one truely say that. Its all marketing or inducing security in a manner to the buyer or tradee' that what your getting is what you think it is or something like it. Hope that made sense? :tsk:

Buy it if you like it and not for the name or the hype said coral comes with.:nerd:
 
For starters, the polyp should have the proper colors and patterns, and properly colored skirts and mouths regardless of how many different names the polyp has. Pretty easy really with a little research and attention to detail. Coral pedia is a pretty good source for id'ing polyps. Maybe you could start there. Hornets for example, have an alternating colored skirt. So if you don't have that to start, they are definately not hornets. And so on. Zoa enthusiasts with more experience usually can spot "imitations" or "like" polyps if they are not legit.

lol some ID sites have multiple similar polyps named multiple names and ID as differnt names as well.

Like mostly everyone stated if like how it looks and dont mind paying the price. After you purchase a nice "named" zoa. It may change "loose color, change color, or otherwise" after a couple weeks in your tank do to lighting or parameters. I have had a good bit of the "name brand" zoas. But I've never really cared where it came from as long as it looked nice and I wanted it. Granted there arw some that are really hard to find that are priced astronomical. Most Ive ever paid for a single polyp is about $50. Another thing from my experience the harder ones to find have not been fragged much so when they are fragged they melt after a couple of days. To have the better success with the nicer polyps try to get 2-3 polyps and they usually have a better success rate. Hope this helped.

It's kinda dumb that people add "true" to the name of a coral because like boley said unless they have some sort of proof what makes them "true"? I guess vendors do that to better promote their product and charge crazy prices for a single polyp.Like everything else in the world, it's about supply and demand and who has the newest hottest zoa/paly. They all come from the same place and there's thousands of different morphs so if you like it buy it, if too expensive just wait for a price drop lol. My 2 cents.
