I wish I still had a reef club to ask this of, or better, a LFS that I could ask this of, but here's hoping.

Does anyone in the Rockford, Fox Valley, or Beloit area have a good colorful strain of coralline that grows well under LEDs, and if so, would you be willing to sacrifice a sample so I can seed my rocks? I'm still in the initial cycle of the tank, so now would probably be the best time to introduce a pest free source of CA.

I briefly considered getting live rock from the shop in Lombard, or the shop in Lake in the Hills, but I've had bad experiences with buying a single seed rock only to have it be a pandora's box of pests, be it bryopsis, aiptasia, or flatworms.

My advise and experience is that if you keep your parameters in check (alk, ca and mg) you won’t have any kind of problems on growing coraline algae. Be patient. Coraline will come with time. Your tank needs to mature and establish first, then it will come.

Good luck:)

Hi Stateline,
Gator is correct, we do offer a product called Coralline Algae in a Bottle. We have recently added an additional species so currently every bottle will contain 8 separate species of coralline, all vivid and bright in color.
To be honest and helpful, scrapings from another tank will usually work also as long as the lighting and salinity match the host tank and other parameters are reasonably close.
We've created this product to ensure that whichever type of lighting your tank has, that there will be a species in our bottle that is perfectly suited for those conditions. (Not an easy task) Scrapings have the downside of only providing 1 species and that species might be a fast growing species with muted coloring which would not be a preferable species to put in your tank. If anyone here has purchased our live rock before we were hit hard by hurricane Irma they can attest that our live rock had insanely bright and vivid coloring and even looked painted. The species contained in our bottled products are the same that we use to seed all of our artificial reef building projects in Florida, the Bahamas, and Puerto Rico and 20% of all proceeds go directly towards our reef restoration and marine conservation projects. We thank you guys from the bottom of of heart for making these projects possible. We will be posting up stats and photos later this month of each species contained in each bottle to further help our customers decide what colors and species will do best in their reef tanks and by the end of 2020 our much anticipated blue coralline species is expected to be ready and we will be talking to r2r admins about the possibility of having the beta testing of this species be a R2R exclusive for 100 forum members before it goes live.
All the best,

Thank you @ARCreef! I hate to say it, but my last attempts at using CA in a bottle were... well, frustrating to say the least. I won't name brands or call anyone out, but let's just say that they weren't marketing a successful or valuable product, and that they're one of the reasons I now have a pretty strong microscope.

I ordered a bottle of your Pink Fusion last night, right after I made this post in fact. Now knowing that you may be offering the blue strains I used to love so much makes me a little happier.

I also went to a LFS, well, semi-local anyways, and picked up a few snail shells... and snails. and a small chunk of their cured LR. There sadly isn't much on it, not as much as I remember live rock having anyways, but it will do nicely.

Agreed, so the other bottled coralline products are classified as boosters and they get a bad wrap for a reason. They definately should not be confused with our product line. They are simply mixtures of calcium and magnesium. High quality salts already contain these in higher quantities and its superior and far cheaper to purchase them separately from a reliable source such as BRS. Our coralline algae in a bottle is the only product that contains actual live algae spores. Boosters will not add any species of coralline to any tank no matter how many bottles you use and are only effective at aiding growth if your levels are depleted. Thank you again for your order we look forward to shipping it out to you within 24 hours. Happy Reefing!

I got mine a 3-4 weeks ago at algae barn. I think they went into making hand sanitizer to help during COVID... Try algae barn they may still have it.

@ARCreef
Can’t find this available online anywhere?
Any idea where I can find some?

Thanks in advance

Much respect. Still waiting on a bottle of that 'special blue' they hinted at. We'll see later this year.
