first off its not algae its cyanobacteria ("red tide") how long has the tank been set up? cyano feeds on light and silicates. usually cyano outbreaks are with new setups that are overstocked or from someone using tap water instead of ro.

this tank has been running for about 7mo. now.......and had no problem tell now.... it could be my lights...... two 120w 55*3w led on for about 12 to 14hr a day......timing on 6am blue leds 7am white turn on......7pm white off and 9pm blue off...... could that be the problem? also if that is it how can i get rid of this cyanobacteria and whats good timing for the tank...these led are new to me so i though you would treat them just like t5.....so timing is the same if it is my lights thats wrong.......

defiantly cut your lights back. I run my blues from 3 pm to 10:30 pm and my whites from 4 pm-9:30pm I have never had a problem with any coral! and I have a few nice ones ;)

if i cut back on the light will that slow it down and possible get it out of my tank....... or im i haven to go out and get chemi-clean? thank you guys for all the info.....

Usually diatoms show up after a high intensity lighting change, not Cyano. Thats weird. You haven't changed anything, food or such?

The tank is about 7 mo old I just moved to leds about 3mo ago.and this crud showed up about 1mo ago..... I only feed about every other day
