Warer level changed?

Someone told me to remove the sock when cycling in the sump. I tried to remove the sock. And all of sudden the water level changed in my sump. And the water above the ATO sensor for my osmolator. Is this normal?

Yes- as water is stuck in a sock in need of change, it accumalates within the sock and upon removal adds water volume up to 1.5 quarts
