Is it possible the Paletta Pink’s encrusting edge is causing the die off on the upper frag?

From the pic it doesn't look like the palette pink tip is the cause. Normally the warfare will start at the base at where the stony corals touch.

The encrusting edge of the pink tip is maybe 2mm away from the recession
 
Absolutely... One coral will almost always overgrow the weaker species.
Agreed. I have just never really seen the die off. Usually it looks like one just grows over the healthy edge of another. Although now that I think about it. My Rainbow Monti is doing this to my setosa.
 
That is definitely warfare in that pic. The top of the coral in the first pic I'm not so sure, could be related. It looks that the pink tip will be the victor nonetheless
