I have a 40 gallon tank set up for my new angler coming anyday in the mail.I want to make sure i feed it right and not to little or too much.I have (real) silversides,clams and shrimp.Do i really need to feed live food?

Depends on the fish. At times yes. Some only accept live for a time.
