Not really a beginner (however I probably will be one forever), but I have forgotton how to wash sand. Just moved and trying add some lighter/finer sand to my display and remove some of my older sand. Can I wash the sand with a garden hose, and then wash it after with 5 gallons of ro water per bucket, or do I have to wash it all with RO water?

I wash mine with tap water then re rinse with RO . Its easier to waste the tap and remove the main waste that way. Then using the ro to rinse off some of the tap water thats in there still. Its worked for me in the past without any issues.

I did the same, I found carib sea to be pretty dirty stuff.

Great!!! I will just fill some buckets and use the hose tomorow afternoon then rinse with RO water and mix it in with the sand I already have. How deep do you guys usually go? I think I was at about 2 and a half inches before the move, I plan on remvoing alot of it, to get some of the waste out of the water before I refill and add the livestock next weekend.
