Washing sand

Is it ok to wash sand out in running tap water ?

I was reading about this last week since I am starting my first reef tank. Seems like the majority said it was okay. To add to that I will be starting my cycle ammonia, so I feel like anything that can potentially leach off will have done so with no harm during the cycle. I bought Marco sand and everyone says it needs to be rinsed heavily so it will be much easier to use tap to do so.

I would use RO water. Its one less thing later if there's a problem to guess if it was the cause. Believe me its worth it.

I don't think its possible to rinse it properly with rodi unless you have only a small amount of sand. It took me hours to rinse mine with the hose running full on. I did not encounter any issues because of the rinse
