Ive had this guy for around 6 months… he started acting weird in the 14g cube he was in( swimming rapidly, jumping around) so i figured he had out grown the tank

last week i moved him to my red sea reefer 53 and hes been doing well… but yesterday night he began to act super weird again. He jumped out of the water(not the tank) and tried swimming into the glass, rocks, etc

then he lost coloration overnight
Is there anything i can do?

What has he been eating and how often have you been feeding him, he does look thin. These guys rarely live that long on a dead only diet, six months is usually when nutritional deficiencies start showing up. If there was not other indicators, the color alone is not always bad. They do shed their outer layer, and some color fading and jetting around can be quite normal. As long as all water parameters check out, including ca and mg, especially mg; accessing your diet and feeding schedule is all you do. There are other causes that could cause fading and erratic behavior, but it would have shown up before 6 months, usually right away or within weeks.

my magnesium in my 42 gallon has always been elevated... ill test again today and update the parameter. Yeah i've been feeding him once every other day but only frozen food(mysis and silversides)

He is also no longer eating like he used to

They have never been known to accept the dead foods necessary to survive very long. They do better when ghost shrimp and guppies are included in their diet. Other than the SFB brand silversides, most of the others are not true silversides and contain a high amount of thiaminese which binds vit B1. Regular mysis is not substantial enough, PE mysis would be better, but only as addition to some live foods. For a dead only diet there would need to be a fatty fish like salmon and thiaminese would have to be very limited.

is it too late to start feeding live now?

Not necessarily, there's always a chance it's too late, but I've also seen them recover with the proper diet and water conditions. Guppies are the best food, I believe because of a more complex digestive system and live gut flora. Getting guppies to these guys is challenging, use a feeding stick to herd them. Ghosties are easier to feed, finding the right size is necessary because their mouth is very small. These guys are very challenging even when fed a diet including live.

I got some guppies and ghost shrimp… began to gutload them. This morning i found Marcus (the waspfish) stuck to my nero 3… i turned off the pump and hes alive but with a broken fin and cant swim. Hes laying there gasping for air…do you think its too late

Sorry to hear that, for some reason these guys are very difficult regardless of how you care for them. If you ever decide to get another member of the Scorpaenidae family, click my name and "find all threads" and you may find some useful information.
