I have a 120 gallon..2 sets of clowns, blue and yellow tang.. mandarin goby and 3 cleaner shrimps... I have lost 2 sand sifting gobys ( watchman and a Diamond) in the past 4 weeks. Parameters are great , matter of fact EVERY THING IS GREAT!!!! I cannot understand why I have lost 2 gobys and all other livestock are thriving..Someone explain please..Thank you from east bay Calif.

Were they a mated pair? I have always read that unless they are mated, to gobys of the same species can stress eachother out to the point of death. Even different species that look too similarly will kill each other.

If you have a thriving mandarin I assume you have a thriving micro fauna population but maybe you don't have enough to support three fish that get most if not all of their food from this source.

They were not mated, so shall i wait to get another watchman or another goby? Again the mandarin is thriving ( obviously he’s not a sand sifter) however, what should one do..Thank u

I think you would be fine to get one. Just one though. It won't bother the mandarin, they are dissimilar enough. They sift the sand for micro organisms so it is possible that there wasn't enough food for two of them. I would wait at least a month, preferably two before I got another one.

Ok cool ..it’s fairly a new tank ( 2.5 months) . From your perspective Which goby or blenny should I try next?

You can get one of the ones you had, any of the watchman species are cool. But how are you feeding a mandarin in a tank that new? I just started my refugium in an 8 month old tank and I'm waiting at least six months so the copepods have a chance to populate enough to support one before I get a mandarin. Unless you were lucky and got one that takes frozen food.

Blenny's eat algae so you get one of those now if you want.
