This hobby is filled with an infinite way of running a saltwater tank. The methods of running a successful tank are ever changing with new developments. There are so many variables that what works for one tank may not work for another. And just because it works for our tank, we sometimes get set in our ways of believing our way is the best/only way.
Plus many salt water enthusiasts began their journey with freshwater tanks, myself included. Once you enter the world of saltwater you quickly realize this is a whole new ballgame lol What once was true for freshwater is not quite the case for saltwater.
And with all the research you do in this hobby, and all the knowledge you bring if you were into the freshwater scene, you are bound to develope strong feelings on certain topics.
So saying all this...this is my question...
Think back to when you started in the saltwater hobby. Were there things that you had a strong opinion about that you later realized may not have been entirely correct? Or misinformation you unintentionally gave, just because that is what you were told? And later you found yourself eating crow
For me, I tried to apply my freshwater knowledge to saltwater.
Eh, tap water works for freshwater tanks; why would it not be good enough for saltwater!?!?
Your Nitrates are how high!!! That will kill all your fish instantly!
Ich you say, well raise the temp and throw some meds in the tank.
