Watchman goby strange behaviour

I was thinking of this but I already have a fire shrimp so I was worried they would fight. The fire shrimp never leaves his little cave on the other side of the tank tho.
In my 4’ tank I have 3 shrimp;
- Alpheus bellulus (Tiger Pistol Shrimp)
- Lysmata amboinensis (Skunk Cleaner Shrimp)
- Stenopus scuttelatus (Golden Dwarf Boxer Shrimp)

None of them bother eachother, they all stick to their own caves and don’t really come in contact with eachother to my knowledge (Even at night).

If I’m honest, I have a feeling I could push the shrimp number more and get Atleast 4 total. However I don’t plan that just yet - I may pull the trigger on a Fire Shrimp though.

Hmm there are two clowns. Two hermit crabs some snails, a blood shrimp and a pin cushion urchin. The clowns are at the other side of the tank and haven’t really been near him. At the moment he’s kind of leaning on the glass but again at the top of the tank. In a 3 ft, 135 litre tank.
Give it time. Sometimes new fish get intimidated when first introduced and go into escape mode until they realize things are fine.

Just an update that Banana the goby seems to be doing a lot better today. Seems a lot more chilled out and is sitting on the sand. Any tips to make sure he gets food as he’s quite skittish still.

I always suggest to feed at the same time everyday. Fish are like kids, they do better with a fixed schedule. They also have amazing internal clocks, no matter how shy the fish is, it will come out a few minutes before feeding time to wait for food.

If you miss one or two feedings the fish will still remain out until it gets fed - I constantly mix up the schedule as I miss the feeding gap and I can’t always feed at the same time every day.

All of my fish will stay up a bit later (In my nano they often stay out even after lights off for no reason) to get food however I do plan to build a schedule.

In addition to consistent feeding time, target feeding him with a small target feeder can help. When my YWG was new, he spooked easily. Event he cleaner shrimp or a hermit crab nearby would cause him to run for cover. So I'd start with a broadcast feed on the opposite end of the tank so that your other fish and CUC were kept occupied with that food, then I'd target feed the goby while everyone else was distracted. The first few times he ran from the feeder, but if I placed a little food at the mouth of his hidey hole, I'd see him come get it a few seconds later. Eventually he got used to the feeder and waited patiently for it. Now, I just broadcast feed and he comes out after everything.
