Water Alarms

The cheap water alarm I posted above was only $20 and I think the pricier one goes for about $60. Still not bad when you consider it could save you from thousands in damage with wet floors

Here are cheap disposable ones (since the batteries cannot be replaced) that lasts for 3 years: $20 for a pack of three: Water Leak Alarm - Improvements Catalog

How loud are those? I have a couple of the 9v powered ones and while they'd get my attention if I were awake, I don't think they'd wake me up from a deep sleep all the way across the house.

The ones I posted in the original thread were like 3 for $25, so not too badly priced either.

i like the last ones...but i think they are a one use meaning if the get wet and alarm sounds thats it, its done.

Yup, it looks like it. From the manual, end of life is 3 years or when it gets triggered, whichever comes first. LOL.

I wonder how easy to hack it and replace the batteries. Most probably it's using some kind of watch battery that is soldered.

Oh wow, that kinda stinks. The ones I posted in the first post use a 9V battery, so easily replaceable.

Yup, true. I wish they were smaller though. Space is a premium in most stands and sumps.

Mine uses a 9v and is only about 1"x3"x3" Not a bad footprint when you consider the importance. I've sounded mine accidentally when putting fresh RO in my ATO bucket. The last thing I'd want to happen is to have it sound for a little splash wehn I wasn't home and then rely on it when the battery was dead.

I'm lucky where my garage in my fish room, so its not an issue for me. haha. Nothing like putting two holes in the wall to run plumbing to the tank.
