So I bought two barrels off Craigslist they used to contain spices particularly Ginger vinegar salt and water. I've been renting them out for about an hour and there still is a small small hint of Ginger smell my question is can that hurt my fish?

Shouldn't. Letting the barrels sit with water in them for a couple of days may help.

If you are concerned you can put some soapy water in them. The surfactant will break the bond of the spice then triple rinse both barrel and your daughter.
