What should be the increase in my water if I am making 15 gallons of RODI water every week. I guess I am asking how many gallons is waste on an average RODI system?

Thanks

A typical waste water to product water ratio is 4:1, although that can be lower or higher depending on your particular system and incoming (or boosted) water pressure. So assuming 4:1, for every 15 gallons you make, you're wasting another 60 gallons down the drain. It definitely adds up; my wife whines about the water bill all the time even though she was the first to suggest that I start another tank.

I haven't noticed any increase in my water bill and I make roughly 75 gallons of product water a month. My hydro bill on the other hand.... We get these how you compare to your neighbors charts every couple of months and we are always the highest usage in our subdivision of 100 houses.

Go ask your neighbor,I bet they get the same letter. I get that letter but my aunt with no aquarium gets the same letter.

My waste is about 3 to 1. My rodi is in the laundry room so I direct the waste into the washing machine which greatly decreases the impact on my water bill. I waste very little.

On mine I directed the waste right out the wall to a plant. You can't go too far with it, but a few feet is ok. It's not perfect, but probably better than down the drain? Plant agrees with me.

I make 45g of RO/DI at a time with a 1000gpd RO/DI system that uses a 120psi pump and 2 RO membranes that are about 2' long. Yes, you read that correctly, one thousand gallons per day! I end up with about 150g of reject water. I collect the reject water in a cistern (used back when we had a well) and use it to do my laundry (wash but not rinse). Doing this my water bill actually went down from when I used a small 75gpd RO/DI system and let the reject water go down the drain!

There should be very little impact on your bill with that amount.

When I lived in the city our water was $0.004/g I believe. If you use a total of 100g pet week between RO and waste that puts you at about 400g per month. Some simple math and you're at a whopping $1.60 per month or roughly $20 per year. And if your wife/significant other complains about the extra water, it works out to just about 0.05 a day.

I did round up on calculations just to make it easy and account for mistakes like leaving the ro running by accident.
