Hello, I have been battling brown algaes for a long time now I thought i had the upper hand still some algae in the tank and did a 10% water change which caused another explosion of brown algae.

My salt mix is the fritz reef pro mix that all my local hobby friends use without the algae problems.
current tank parameters are
nitrate 10
phosphate .2
ammonia 0
salinity 1.025
alk 8.7
calcium 390
I dose using a calcium reactor also my tank is bare bottom with all detritus ending up in one corner that i can vacuum easy. I clean filter socks every 3 days. I run a big skimmer along with UV and also run some dissolved organics resin in the sump. I tried running the tank at 0 nutrients but the coral hated that and still had the brown algae. LPS and soft tank so like a bit dirty.

last night after about a month of no water changes i figured i would start doing a 10% weekly water change schedule. i replaced 12 gallons for my 120 reef and after 24hrs the tank has exploded with more brown algae. This was strictly a water change nothing disturbed. Im feeling like somthing is getting through my RO/DI but not sure. I have horrible city water reading about 750 at the tap. after the ro part my water is about 19 and after the 2 DI chambers the water reads 0. I recently changed out the duel ro membranes and keep up on my DI resin changes when i read 1 ppm. In 2 years i have never changed my pre sediment filter and my charcoal filter would that be the issue? Also can somthing like silica be passed through the system without reading TDS?

Because of the explosion of algae right after the water change Im pretty confident that its the water im using thats causing the issue and i have been constantly adding whatever is in there to my tank with the auto top off and the water change.

Should i try replacing all the carterages in the RO or get a new ro system all together?

any and all thoughts welcome

Generally speaking I would say it’s a lack of pure RO water being used but it could be your salt. I’m no expert here, #reefsquad

cheers Its all got me. I could be getting dinos back not sure. Just very odd that i get an explosion after a water change. I have an unopened box of reef crystals i my try that on my next water change. here is a pic of the outgoing water the meter reads 0

In one of the BRS videos they talk about the conductivity meter not picking up Silicates in the water until a much higher concentration then you would think. I would suspect silicates as well. Do you even have a DI stage?
