How often do you guys do water changes ? I/m hoping to setup 180 FOWLR (6x2x2) and was wondering often I would have to change water with good skimmer, DIY turf scrubebr and some mechanical filteration.

I plan on setting up a AWC of about 1.5 per day on my 200/275 FOWLR

ugg more stuff to do and money to spend.

its pretty new so i voted for once a month.
I have nice large skimmer just got in a ATS + i'll be using Ozone. curious to see how it all pans out.

I have an auto water change system in my 250gallon .I do 5 gallons per day .May be a bit overkill

I’ve done 2 maybe 3 water changes in 10 years. A proper sized turf scrubber + trace replenishment can eliminate the need for water changes

I do 10-15 gallons on my 50 gallon system once every 3-4 weeks. I don’t really need to, but it helps keep my Po4 under .12 and No3 under 12.

Why do you need to replenish trace elements in FOWLR ? I thought just as long as I can keep my NO3 and Po4 under control might not need a water change ?

I would still dose elements for a fish only tank for coralline algae and a refugium if present

I generally do water changes on my fowlr tanks once a month despite my parameters being low.
Helps give me peace of mind when it comes to potential build ups of "unknowns" and remove detritus build up.
