Water change or no water change

I have a dilemma.
I have a huge diatom bloom and high phosphates.
I’ve read that water changes will decrease phosphates BUT water changes (if water has silicates) will feed the diatoms.
Which poison should i take

Are you using rodi water? If so it should not have silicate unless it's in the salt mix. Most diatoms come and go all by themselves. If phosphate is really high your other nutrients are probably high as well. Is your tank less than 6 months old?

All you need is continuum captive phos w removes phosphates and silica should work well for your current needs

Tank is 2 months old.
I ran into phosphate problem by putting in too much phyto and reef roids.
and yes, RODI but sometimes water was like 1-3 TDS.

I have recently set up a new tank with dry rock and PO4 was 2.5 (Hanna) Fish are fine ,but my corals did not like the switch over/high PO4 levels. Dosing Quantum very slowly and adding/replenishing GFO over the last 10 days, my numbers today are 1.14. Fish are super happy, but I have made a conscious effort to feed tiny amounts and change the water reg. I figure its leaching out of the dry rock, progress is slow but nothing ever happens quickly in this hobby as I am finding out. Hope your numbers are steady, good luck.

You want to get rid of your silicates and I actually dose them to keep the tank clean. Are you 100% sure it's diatoms?

I would definitely do the water changes. I change my RO/DI filters anytime it shows any TDS other than 0. What level of phosphates do you have?
