So I have a 29g biocube with 13g sump. And about 30lbs of live rock, 30 lbs sand as displacement. When I do a water change my temp drops from 78.8 to 76.4 is that ok? Also when I take my chaeto out to rinse it, I lose so many pods is there anything I can do to avoid that?

It takes me several days to do a water change ,, I use a old return pump to mix the salt ,, that pump heats the water up a bit more than I need ,, after the water is mixed and at the salinity I like ,, I put a smaller pump in the water with a heater set at 78 ,, let it sit for a day ,,, then do the water change .

As far as the Pods ,,, wait till lights out ,,, give the Chatto you are removing a gentle swish around in your display tank ,, its what I do ,,,

Place a heater in your mixed salt water to bring it up to temp. A drop of a couple degrees isn't bad if it's short term.

Unless absolutely necessary, just rotate the chaeto, no rinsing needed.

I have the 32 gallon bio cube

I don't rinse my chaeto either unless it gets too much detritus. I do weekly water changes and focus on cleaning pumps and filter floss. I have a 32 gallon nano tank with media upgrade in back. It has floss and then second chamber empty and chaeto in the 3rd. I also have a skimmer and GFO that runs seagem.

I rinsed it because it had what I'm assuming is red slime algae. I only have 1 heater atm I kind of want to get a 55g drum with nozzle and a heater in it this mixing 5g at a time is super annoying.

Wish I would have put a nozzle in the tank when I drilled holes too, it would have made water changes so much easier.

I've used grey brute cans for decades because they are cheap. I use a vinyl length of tubing with some pvc fitting to make a "hook" that I hang on my sump.

That attaches to my manifold on my brutes

A mag 3 pump does the work for me. Much easier to do water changes.

Slightly confused so do you use a 5g bucket or something and fill up and carry to the tank? And is the u to the sump pretty much your siphon?

My sump is plumbed into my house drain.

I just turn that ball valve to drain. I have marks on my sump on how many gallons I want to change. Turn the valve and watch the water level drop to the mark of gallons and close the valve. I use the tubing in the other pictures to fill.

My sump is in the basement, DT is upstairs.

I've changed a few things since. No more inkbird controller and I have a refugium area in the sump with chaeto.

For heat take a large measuring cup or container full of new water and microwave it.
If you suspend your chaeto over the sump for a while, some of the pods will drop off into the sump.

I usually put a pot of rodi on the stove. Bring it to about 130 degrees and dump it into the 10 gallon brute mixing container. Sometimes I have to do it a couple times, but it does the trick.

That's awesome, if I didn't put it in my living room I would totally do that. Maybe I can figure out a detachable hose to do that. But the trashcans are going to have regardless it's such a pain to mix salt for every 5 gallon bucket.

I never heat my water, it's at room temp. During WC my temp drops by 4 degrees. I have much larger swings in the summer when the house temp is in the 80's, and tank temps hover around 83.

The 2 degree drop in temp will have no effect on your livestock.

Do any of you truly think the ocean has constant never fluctuating temps?
