Hello, I am a noob and I want to setup a water changing system for my 75G reef tank. I need to pump water from my basement to the first floor. Vertical distance is approximately 14 ft and 75 ft horizontally w all the winding turns. Can I use a regular aquarium sump pump like the octopus varios 4? I have a varios 4 in my Sump and would like to use the same model in my water storage container. Then if my tank Sump dies, I at least have a temporary backup. Overkill? Thoughts?

Thanks In Advance
Steve

This pump is not made for the head pressure you will be dealing with. That’s a quiet a distance to do.
Might be better to use a Stenner peristaltic pump to do this type of work. A dc pump is not strong enough to handle this until you get into the high end models Abyzz
