I'm looking for a pump that can pump water in the bucket into the sump or display. I just need something to make water changes easier but I don't think I need something too strong since I only do 5 gallon changes. I usually have that 1 bucket next to the tank and use a bowl to add water but it's annoying lol

Is a sicce 1.5 good or is that too good of a pump for such a task?

You can use whatever you have around if there isn’t to much tubing or head rise involved, and you’ll soon find if the pump is strong enough to move the water.

I have around 30ft to pump from my garage to the tank and ended up getting a 5000lph pond pump for the job because of the distance. It will however fill the water change sump which is 120 litres in around 1 minute!! It’s like a fire hose! Lol

I use Magdrive 18 to pump about 30g with water change. It moves water from basement thru 75 foot hose up one floor into sump with about 10 feet head pressure. It takes about 10-15 minutes to move the water. Works well, pump not super cheap however.

To the sump even an MJ-900 would work, but to the tank I'd go with the MJ-1200 for the height. Only $35 on sale right now. I used to use it for the same thing and it pumps up to the tank height at just the right pace to get 5G done quickly without being TOO strong.

Something like an MJ1200 or similar should be fine for pumping 5 gallons of water into a bucket. You have no significant headloss to worry about...

I use MJ1200 as mixers in brute trash cans and it pumps with great pressure easily 3-4 feet of head pressure or more into second brute. This is cheap and would work for you.

I use a maxi 1600 to pump water from a barrel into a 75. It's standard height to the top of the tank. Nice gentle flow doesn't blow anything around like a larger pump would . I think a 1/2 inch inner diameter fits over the pump output.
For the bigger 180 tank I use an old Magdrive ,7 or 8 not sure . It fits a 3/4 inch hose with a barb fitting. Now that will move some water.
