7 weeks ago I set up my tank with tap water treated with prime and some bio start. Got it cycled and added fish (3 small damselfish) 2 weeks later a pair of gladiator clowns. And then some freshly fragged zoos’s and Xenia. Should add I’m running a asm g2 and phosguard aside from mechanical (sponges and fross ). The fish and Xenia are all doing great but not the zoo’s. 1 small colony is partially open (it wasn’t fragged recently) the rest haven’t opened since I got them(over a week). BRS rodi will be here tomorrow. I will be doing a water change but not sure how big I should do. Feel free to add anything helpful.
Stats are
90 gallon display with 30 gallon sump. 800 gph turnover
Light is RB Photon 32 v1 9” above water peaking at 50%blue 20%white for 6 hrs
25 lbs live rock (more coming)
Using test strips (I know but they were available)
PH 8.0
Nitrites and nitrates 0
KH 180ppm

Id make it fairly large to start, no way to know what was in that tap water. Do 50% and then wait a week and do another 50% do you have a copper test kit? Chances are some copper made it's way into your tank in the tap water, get a test kit and change out with ro/DI water until the test kit comes back 0.

I am not a fan of large water changes, for the reason that to much water takes away from the bio load that is starting to develop and stress the system. I did pretty much the same as you but started with %20 water changes after the first fill with tap water.

Thanks for the replies. New rodi should be there around 5 so I’ll be making water this evening

Your nitrates being 0 could cause the zoas to look bad. You want some nitrates because the corals will feed off of them. Of course who knows what was in the tap water. I just wanted to say keep an eye on your nitrates as well.

Well the rodi is making water as I type. Wondering if I needed one as good as I got. Chlorine from tap is way low 0 free and .5 total. Water from tap is 70tds , 1 before di, and 0 after. No wonder I had such a nice tank just using a api tap water filter. I was bummed out I couldn’t get a replacement cartridge. Ah well I got a cool new toy and perfect water now! Oh and I bought some reef chili maybe that’ll wake them up
