hi

I'd like to do a 15-25% water change every 2 weeks. The problem i have a leather coral near to my surface. So if i had to change 25% my coral will be exposed to outside environment.

Questions :

1) Can they survive without water surrounding for like 10-15minutes max? will it affect the coral?
2) What other options i have? I personally don't like to move them or take out from the tank..

Yeah 10-15 enough to kill, i would prepare the water first than empty my tank and fill it right after that.

i already have prepared salt water in jerry cans. But to take out and refill the water slowly it could take up to 10-15 minutes minimum

Thanks but it doesn't solve my issue nor answer my initial question

Any one else?

I’m guessing your leather might slump over and still be in the water with 25% change.if not, it would likely still be be ok if you minimized the time it was exposed. This assumes there is no overhead light heating it up. If it were my tank, I would remove water until the coral was almost exposed then stop.

The problem is u won't be able to do that. I can certainly stop the light etc but if I only remove water until the corals top portion then I can change only like 15% water change every time.

Then do 15%. That’s fine. The typical recommendation is 10% per week. Even better.

I would change less water more frequently. That way the coral stays submerged.

I had the issue with a large acro in a past tank. Grew to the top of the water. Tips were exposed to air when I changed water for up to 5 minutes. Never did see any issues. Not sure how leather would react though as I've ever kept a leather coral.
