Hi all, hope you are well. I am about to do my first water change and just wanted to check with you refers I'm not missing anything. Please excuse metric I'm from UK and forgot inches, feet, and gallons lol.

My tank is 1000 ltrs, I have a 120 ltr food grade plastic barrel ( currently filling with rodi )
I intend to drain off approx 100 ltrs, I very measured the surface area of the water in the tank 69cm x 150cm
I calculate if I measure 10 cm down from water line after return pump switched off that should give me approx 100 ltrs.

I'm going to fill barrel with 120 ltrs of rodi, mix salt and heat
Turn off skimmer, powerheads and return pump.
Syphon approx 100 ltrs ( leaving approx 20 ltrs spare )

As this is my first time I just wanted to check I have nt missed any thing, or got anything wrong
Thanks for reading, any tips or criticism welcome.

Good morning (afternoon in the UK). I want to wish you well on your first water change and welcome you to both reefing and to R2R.

The only thing (I notice) is you want to mix your salt at least 8 hrs ahead of a water change. Some salts need 24 hrs to fully mix. Even when it appears mixed to the naked eye it does not mean it is. Patients is your friend.

Enjoy the hobby and remember that impatience is the most expensive part of this hobby.

Yes, your right, thanks for you reply, I'm glad I posted, I can leave the salt mixing over night, like I read on another post we are water keepers, needs to be right !

@Twoddler I think you have things covered. Not sure if you have an ATO but turn that off as well.

As for mixing times, I simply follow the directions from the salt company. There are a lot of different thoughts, suggestions, and experiences, but I figure it's safest to follow the directions provided. If you're really interested, BRS did a video following mixing times of various salts as well as the "best" method for mixing salt.
