I have 200 gallons of total volume. I currently do water changes by hand. I shoot for 15 gallons once a week. There are times, like right now when I am doing daily medicated baths, so I have been doing about 1.5-2 gallons per day with a bit extra on my Sunday maintenance day. I plan on keeping a mixed reef, using IO reef crystals. I will dose Kalk, not sure if I will need anything else.

I just got my Hydros controller and plan on automating my water changes. I was thinking of doing continuous water changes using a doser and changing about 1.5 - 2 gallons per day. I thought that perhaps it was easier to schedule a single batch daily water change of 1.5-2 gallons, using the inexpensive Hydros DC pumps and float/optical switches. There is also doing a large 15-gallon or so once-a-week water change.

So, what water change theory is the best or does it really not matter?
