Good morning, so I have been doing daily automatic water changes via my apex dos. I was wondering since I do 1gallon per day , is that beneficial for my coral tank or doing a bi weekly 10% water change more beneficial. I was thinking small daily water changes would not have drastic fluctuation in my parameters but, now that I think about what I am doing is actually changing the chemistry even more since the new water is constantly being changed. If anyone has any thoughts about this please feel free to give me some input. Thanks again and keep on reefing!!

I’d say don’t over think it. The difference is so minimal as to not be worth stressing about. You don’t remove new or old water daily. You remove water and add water. Soon as it’s added it’s all one water anyway.

I would do what your doing, the slower you can do water changes the better really as it affects the water chemistry less.

I would look at your parameters and let them tell you. If your all and calcium are staying where you want them, then I would leave it as it is.

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you are trying to export nutrients, then larger, less frequent water changes are more effective. This covers what most people are looking for with water changes. Even with a 10% water change, you shouldn‘t have “drastic fluctuations” in your water chemistry, assuming your fresh saltwater is somewhat close to the parameters of your tank water.

If you are just trying to replenish trace elements and alkalinity, then smaller more frequent water changes are probably best.

Thanks for the input everyone
