Water changes how often do you do yours

Yes I think the high tds got it out of whack and when I changed it with good it shocked the tank. I know it happens in fw nice catch browner20

Forget the whole WC thing. You said in two years you haven't had much growth. While I'm no RHF I'm pretty certain your alk has spent a lot of time low. I always knew its importance but never appreciated how fast it was depleted until this past Sept when I worked on disling it in. I did am and pm tests for two weeks every day. At night I would drop from 9 to 8.25, get it back up in the am and go 9-8 during the day, constantly. Now I feel like I can watch these acros grow(except the one in the grow out contest of course)

Yes I had slow growth but I think my slow is different then your slow. My alk was the problem at first being 7.8 to 8 sometimes dropping to 6 all of that had been fixed and reads constant on my monitor @11. When I stated slow growth I was talking about some sps have been slow on growth but have done more at covering their base vs growing out. My montis have covered rocks I get 1in to 1/2 in growth on most have. In the last year this site has helped tremendously fix and adjust those issues. Another reason I had slow growth was point of sale lighting. Now running some amazing LEDs and growth since has increased.

I have a bc29 that I don't skim, or add anything too. I change out about 5 gallons every 5 to 7 days. The growth in my tank is steady.

Sure it removes some, just not enough to matter

nitrifiers typically are anchored, but they dont just sprout there, theres a water transitory phase and thats where some can be removed but not enough to matter

my tank just had 20x 100% water changes and thats about the 15th time doing so, its almost 10 yrs old.

my tank gets the most aggressive water changes of any reef except for Simon K who leaves his drained for 6 hours per session lol mr tidal ebb and flo

I was trying to understand this, you do 20 100% water changes like in a row? and you've done this 15 times?

yes thats true but its only because the reef is so small

annually I pour 20 clean gallons through a 1 gallon reef

best coral extension ever

it's a simulation of tidal ebb and flow they adapt

this is a 100 pct drain change and I clean the glass internally with 35% lab grade h202

I guarantee this aquarium has had more peroxide per gallon input than any tank on the planet. We run peroxide experiments in this bowl and then put that out in large threads even though my sps are brown lol I still have to chip it out with a dremel like deer antlers

I have never seen anything like this so awesome man

I have a 75g reef and I rarely do a water change. Maybe 3 times a year. 15-25g each time. I do use additives on occasion and GFO/Carbon Reactors. I have SPS/LPS and misc. inverts plus a few fish. Tank is 10+ years old (bare bottom).
