Water changes, I know, I know, but...

I should do more changes but I test and dose 2 part w kalk top off max saturation in a gal jug. When I do a water change I do about 15 gallons which is my sump volume. That’s like every 6-8 weeks

My tanks have always looked better when I do regular water changes, so that's what I do. 5g weekly on my 80g system.

Plenty of people seem successful without them though

I have a 10 gallon nano, I’ve been doing 20% WC’s once every 1 to 1.5 months with no issues, I have two clowns 4 small colonies of zoas(ranging from 5-15 polyps) a few acans and a small 2 head hammer coral, they’ve all been doing just fine. I have wondered though, I generally spend a solid 30min to an hr a day just watching my tank no maintenance just enjoying it. I always wondered if replacing a couple of cups of water a day would be almost the same as doing one larger change every a couple of weeks or once a month. I figured I would not have to worry about heating up water for such a small amount and would only take seconds. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I tried not water changes a long time ago with a turf scrubber. I was underwhelmed, but it was before the times of ICP testing, so who knows. Now I’ve got a 60 gallon, one jug fresh saltwater in and one jug out daily (1%), not heated. Filter sock cleaned every 3 or 4 days, change a bag of aragonite sand once a week,top off with Kalkwasser on a doser, bit of magnesium on a doser, that’s it.

My corals eat up too much calcium and alk in my 10 gallon nano to not do water changes unless I wanna start dosing...I'd rather just do water changes since they help export built up nutrients as well

This tank have not have any WC for 4 years now, however I do an ICP test every 3-4 months and I dose different things on a daily base- I use Triton Core 7, hence my salinity rise slowly. I take out around 5 l//week and let the RO compensate for the rise in salinity. Skimming very dry. KH director take some water too. PO4 around 0.1 (I use GFO) and NO3 around 10

Like Lasse I don't change much water. I change more than he does just because I live next to the sea and like to collect it, but even with that I change about 20% 3 or 4 times a year and my tank is older than most members on here with no problems

I tried the skip a few more weeks and went back . The tank looks happier
