Water changes on 2nd floor...

I ultimately plan on having an apex with a water change DOS, however I have a 60 gallon display with a 25 gallon sump and I’m picturing how I’m going to avoid lugging 30-40 gallons of water up my stairs every water change.
I figure I’ll buy an RODI unit and run water to a huge container (however not just a big trash can, but hopefully something a little more subtle) that just sits right next to my unit, but I also may have to have some kind of moveable dolly the container sits on to cart it around my place? I don’t know, thoughts?

Would you consider running the ro/di clean water output line up into the second floor? Or perhaps you could hook up the ro/di unit on the second floor? There are various John guest fittings that would allow you to hook up a rodi unit to the most creative of spaces: Washing machine feeds, toilet water lines, under sink water lines, heck even a shower head? May or may not need a booster pump.

This would hopefully eliminate the stairs portion - then you can do the 10% changes weekly which is roughly 2 x 5 gallon buckets until the DOS arrives - A bit more feasible! This could help keep your larger container full more often. You'll have some biggo biceps in no time Ahnold!

Are you doing 35-47% water changes?

Cut it to 10% and it's only 8.5 gallons of lugging up the stairs

Do you have an upstairs bathroom? I hooked my RODI up under my sink and ran a line to two 10 gallon containers next to the tank (hidden to match the stand). One was for RO and the other became my "mixing station". You could permanently run the line, or in my case I have float valves and simply connected the RO line overnight and when I woke up, disconnected the quick connect. Only needed to connect the RO line twice a month.

Thanks! I’ll have to figure out the smartest way to rig up the RODI line to a water supply, but what are the best kinds of containers to use that aren’t too fat and more intentionally designed for this other than big grey trash cans?

Honestly, it depends on the volume you want to hold, but pretty much most plastic containers will work- it's all about how you hide them.

You could try and place a 10 gallon ATO reservoir inside of your stand and use that. Pick up two and place them inside your stand, one for ATO and one for AWC
